| Batik fabrics are typically dyed, not printed. Thus there will be color (from the dye process) on both sides of the fabric, unlike printed fabrics which will not show the print design clearly (or at all) on both sides. The batiking process causes the fabric to shrink, so the weave of the fabric is much tighter than printed fabrics. Batiks can be a little harder to hand quilt for this reason. These fabrics can also be overpainted, overprinted or stamped; these processes may require that the end product be treated more gently to preserve the metallic or paint. Each photograph is of a 12 inch by 12 inch square area so that you can visualize the scale of the prints. As always, our 100% cotton fabrics are available in one half yard increments. Just type in the quantity you want (for example, if you wish to purchase one and one half yards, type in 1.5, if you want one half yard, type in 0.5, etc.). |
