Blue Island Quilts has always been known for unique quilt kits. Our philosophy "No Paint-By-The-Number Quilts!" means that each quilt kit has been specially hand selected and is one of a kind - we don't do assembly line repetitive kits. Remember the old paint-by-the-number hobby paint sets, where you filled in the blanks dutifully following the instructions until Voila! you finished with a painting that looked... just like everyone else's?!. We don't want to make quilts like that, and we like to think other folks might feel that way too.
The Blooming Ninepatch Quilt (from Blanche Young's book, "Tradition with a Twist") is one of our favorite quilts. Check out our Quilt Gallery for examples of these fabulous quilts. Kathy teaches Color Confidence classes using this quilt design because it is such a great example of what happens when different fabrics are combined - the whole becomes so much more impressive than the sum of its parts. She has modified Blanche's instructions to make a six-fabric quilt, and has developed an easy assembly method that does not require laying out all the pieces to put the quilt together. All kits include six specially hand selected fabrics, Kathy's modification and assembly instructions, and a fabric placement key. All kits also come packaged in a reusable zipper top vinyl project pouch. All fabrics are 100% cotton. You will need Blanche's book in order to construct this quilt - the book is not included in the kits!
