 Current Scheduled Classes

Thanks for checking out our scheduled classes page.  We are going to be setting up our online scheduling in the way that we scheduled classes the past two years at our retail store.  We will list a set of offered classes, and if you are interested, you can email us to be placed on the interest list.  We started doing this when we found that although we were offering classes that quilters were interested in, we were guessing at the best dates to offer them.  We would like to be able to offer our classes at the time that is most convenient for our students, so here's how the process works:

If you see a class on the list that you would like to take, send us an email so that you can be placed on the interest list for that class.  We will need the following information in your email:

Your name
Email address
Phone number - where we can reach you or leave a message
Class interested in
Times that you are not available (i.e. will be gone first two weeks of March, etc.)

Currently, our classes are being taught at Quilt Ventura, in Ventura, California.  We anticipate most of our classes will be taught on the weekends in the daytime.  Once we have sufficient interest signups for a class, we will schedule the class.  We will then call and email everyone who is on the interest list on the same day, so that everyone gets notified at the same time.  The class will be posted on our website on that day also.  It will then be up to you to contact Quilt Ventura to sign up for the offered class.

This system worked very well for us; the classes were scheduled at the best times for our students, and our classes often filled within 24-48 hours after the phone calls/emails went out.  We hope in this way to be able to offer a variety of interesting classes on dates that work best for you, our students.  You are also welcome to email us with suggestions for classes that you would like to see offered.

Please note that new classes can be added at anytime, so check back frequently to see what is coming up!

Class Offerings

Quilter's Basic Boot Camp

This class is a non-traditional approach to making students comfortable with quilting's basics.  No gimmicks, no gizmos, just good information presented in a useful and interesting way.  You'll finish the class feeling confident about your quilting skills, and having had a good introduction to the fun that quilters have when combining fabrics to create a personal style.  This is a four meeting class with limited enrollment.  A sewing machine is required.

You will be making a wall-hanging size quilt top (although some students later expand the project into a larger piece).  We will be covering a number of skills designed to introduce you to many common techniques used in basic quilt piecing.  You will learn not only to follow basic instructions, but how to be able to look at a pattern or photo and figure out how to duplicate the quilt shown, or adapt it to create the look you want.  This class covers making the top only; quilting a quilt involves a completely different set of skills.

There is no sample quilt hanging in the store!  Kathy does this deliberately because she wants you to be able to make color decisions as the quilt top progresses.  Kathy teaches design and color classes, and she finds that beginning students learn to be much more comfortable and flexible in combining fabrics if they are not allowed to become locked into a preconceived "picture" of the finished product.  So relax, have fun, and get a great introduction to the speed and ease of "new-style" quilting.

Color Confidence I - Baby Bloomer

This two meeting class will introduce you to basic color and fabric selection theory, as well as speed assembly techniques to make your own fabulous small Blooming Ninepatch.  Basic Bootcamp or basic machine piecing and rotary cutting skills are required.  These quilts are always impressive, and they look much more complicated than they really are.  We will work on a large lap size for the class, then you'll be ready to make a bigger one on your own!  Book required (Tradition with a Twist - Blanche Young).

Mystery Quilt Class

What are we making?  It's a mystery!  Kathy has taught these classes for about eight years, and they have been some of our most popular.  You will be given a supply list that specifies amounts of different fabrics, but you won't have any idea what the design will be.  This class is a one meeting, all day class with sewing machines required. Participants should have basic rotary cutting and machine piecing skills.  Kathy designs a new quilt for each class, and works on creating one-of-a-kind designs.
