We have used this outstanding book by Blanche Young and her daughter Dalene Young Stone more than any other book we own. The quilts are strip assembled and quick pieced, easy to make, and fast to finish. Our beginners often start with a quilt like the Baby Sunshine and Shadows, while our Color Confidence classes use the Blooming Ninepatch for its great effect. Twenty-five of the twenty-eight quilts are suitable for anyone with basic rotary cutting and strip piecing experience. We do recommend avoiding the three Boston Commons quilts unless you enjoy insetting fabric (not a beginner technique). Once you understand her strip assembly notation and charts, all the diagrams are easy to read and follow.
